The redesign of This is Money required a system whereby the creation and modification of tabular information became an easy task for the editorial team. The old site required code heavy tables to be created to display all data and presentational style.

At the same time a number of accessibility and coding standards were to be included to enable the required standard of accessibility to be met.

The use of css to style all the elements of the xhtml tables meant that minimal mark up is required to produce a visually enticing table of information, whereby information heavy tables can easily be interpreted and understood by the user.

With the use of the xhtml tags <caption>, <thead> and <tfoot> increased accessibility and code optimisation are achieved whilst enhancing the visual look. At the same time a DOM script controls the look of the rows within the tables giving each row an alternate background colour which is inserted as the table loads. This gives the editorial team the ability to reorder tables of data without facing the time consuming problem of having to manually mark ever-other row.
